Primary Election Information for Douglas County

A primary election in Nevada is a preliminary vote held before the November general election, where voters help choose which candidates from each political party will appear on the general election ballot for partisan offices such as President, U.S. Senator, and Governor, as well as select candidates for non-partisan offices like judgeships, school board members, and other local positions.

For non-partisan offices, all registered voters—regardless of party—participate on a single ballot to narrow the field.

Who is on My Ballot?

Not sure why your ballot looks different from the Sample Ballot? Nevada holds a closed primary, which means your Official Election Ballot will only show candidates from the party you're registered with. Registered Democrats vote in the Democratic primary, registered Republicans vote in the Republican primary, and nonpartisan or minor-party voters are not eligible to vote in either. This is required by NRS 293.310. Learn more about closed and open primary elections.
